GET PAID TO WAIT IN LINE
The other day I was scrolling through X when I saw this post.
Can you make money with DMs and sales calls?
Sure.
You can also make money as a:
1. Dog Food Tester
2. Pro Paint-Dry Watcher
3. Professional Line StanderDoes that mean you're going to start chasing those things and call them "freedom"? twitter.com/i/web/status/1…

And although he’s bashing these gigs I think #3 is particularly interesting.
Don’t get me wrong, all these seem ugly on the outside. I mean dog food tester? That is definitely a new one for me 😂
But professional line stander is actually legit and solves a real problem (even though I thought it was a joke at first)
Turns out, people are making thousands of dollars from this and turning it into their own businesses.
How?
Well, by standing in line.
Ok, I got you with that one - be honest. But for real, say you wanted to get that hot new Samsung flatscreen TV for 20% off. This bad boy 👀
But… you have to get your kid in bed. Or maybe you just have something else you’d rather be doing than standing in line.
Instead of missing out on that 55’’, you pay a line stander to help you get it.
And it’s not just TV’s. Think the new iPhone drop, music festivals, Black Friday sales, exclusive film tickets.. you catch my drift.
Now, the short answer to the question “Can you really make money standing around doing nothing?” is yes. But don’t just take my word for it.
Here’s Samuel, a guy who makes $1,000 a week from standing in lines and employing his friends along the way.
And we can’t forget about Jennifer. Someone who charges $25-$40/hr to wait in lines and has built a team of 10 people.
She lives in Washington D.C. and apparently for big Supreme Court hearings people line up days in advance because only the first 50 members of the public get in.
She claims to be profitable and if I had to guess makes around $2-$3k a month. I love niche stories like these.
I mean, where was this gig when I was in college? I was working at CVS for $14/hr 😭
Now for the “How To” part today I’ve got 2 options:
How to become a line sitter and make ~$20/hr
How to build a line sitter business like Jennifer
1. How to become a line sitter and make $20/hr
Register with a line sitter app
These sites/apps connect you directly with potential customers.
Here are a few I came across that kept coming up as legit:
They all essentially work the same way. Once you download the app, you search for line sitter jobs in your area.
Keep in mind that some customers might want you to just hold their spot till they arrive or collect and deliver an item.
You can either accept or decline, depending on the price they offer and other factors like distance.
A quick tip: Make sure you take a deposit before starting the job so you’re not left standing for hours in vain. And if you have to pay for something, arrange for payment in advance.
2. How to build a line sitter business like Jennifer
Although it didn’t say in the article, if I were a betting man I’d bet Jennifer’s business works like this:
Jennifer researches and figures out where the big lines will be
Joins communities and lets people know of her services (and uses Google ads, which she mentioned)
Then hires line sitters for cheaper than whatever the customer is paying and keeps the profit
To show you how this math shakes out let’s do a quick example.
She charges ~$25/hr and says for the Supreme Court hearings they sometimes wait for days. Let’s keep it at 2 days (48 hours) even though she claims they’ve camped out for 3 to 4 days before 🤯
Now Jennifer posts a line sitter job for $20/hr. It gets taken.
That’s $25/hr * 48 hrs = $1,200. $960 of that goes to her employee. The other $240 goes to her and she never had to wait in line.
That’s the power of finding a lead and that’s what this business becomes. You’re arbitraging how much a customer is willing to pay and how much an employee is willing to take.
As the business grows, you can create a website and invest in marketing to get even more customers but you don’t need it. Be scrappy. Start out going to big lines and offering people your services.
This is a big problem. Americans spend 37 billion hours in lines every year.
So there ya have it. You can go the easy route and make ~$25/hr waiting in lines or start your own business - you choose.
Which idea would you try? |
