Last weekend I met a guy making $10k/mo

here's how he's doing it and how you can too

Happy Hump Day! Let’s jump in:

THE JUNK MAGICIAN

So the other day, I was helping my dad clean out the garage, and I don’t know about you guys, but our garage is basically our storage unit — we put everything in there.

It’s filled with so much junk I even saw stuff from 20 years ago that we have no use for (shoutout to my Nerf blasters and torn-up slip-n-slide).

We had to throw a lot of this junk out, but because of where I live, we can't just put all this stuff in our front lawn.

Why? Because the garbage people won't take it all. And after looking into it, I found they also do this in other towns.

They have a designated day, once a year, for your “big” trash items (think mattresses, sofas, desks). On any other day, they won't take it and that sofa will just sit on your lawn looking like you sleep outside.

Because of this I had to look for companies to help us dispose of all this junk and my goodness, these people charge a ton!

Even when I tried contacting them, they told me they were booked for the next week.

That was when the lightbulb went off in my head 💡... this could be a great side hustle!

Here’s the thing: People always have junk but most of the time they have nowhere to throw it - just like in my situation.

That’s where you come in. I’ll call you the “trash magician” because when you come boom, abracadabra… the trash is gone! 🪄

In actuality, since you don’t have magic powers (I don’t think) you'd dispose of the junk at a nearby junkyard (where you can make more money scrapping what you pick up).

And get this: nearly three-quarters of Americans planned to do spring cleaning this year. How many do you think haven’t yet (like me)? I’m willing to bet a lot, meaning you can make a pretty penny doing a little dirty work (with gloves of course)!

How much can you make?

Most likely, between $100-$600 for each job you do.

Charge based on the type of junk your client needs removed. The heavier the item, the more stress it’ll cause you to remove it, and the more you get paid 😉

There’s no getting around it - this is a labor intensive job but that doesn’t mean you have to be the one doing it. If you get things off the ground, you can hire high school kids who would happily work for $10-15/hr.

There’s two easy ways to get customers:

1. Neighborhood Group Chats

Nextdoor is probably the most valuable neighborhood social media app there is. Let people in your community know if they’re thinking about doing some cleaning that you can help them haul the junk away.

The other ones (Facebook & Craigslist) also work but I’ve found there’s nothing moms love more than hopping on Nextdoor and getting the inside scoop on the community - this is free advertising to your target market.

2. Real Estate Agents

Guess who real estate agents know? Real estate investors.

And guess what real estate investors do a lot? Renovate homes.

As you can imagine, reno’s involve a heavy amount of demo and junk. These are the people you’re looking for.

Become the guy or gal they call when a new renovation starts up and you’ll always have jobs coming your way.

Supplies needed to get started

A truck or a vehicle with a lot of trunk space is ideal. Or if you want to get smart with it book all your appointments on the same day and rent a Uhaul.

Other items you’ll probably want:

  • Gloves - to avoid any splinters!

  • Safety glasses

  • And maybe a hammer and drill to break things down but I doubt you’ll need it

This is a lucrative business that I know you can make a lot of money from.

To finish my story from before… when the guy came to pick up my junk, I asked him how much he makes doing this. Wanna take a guess? I’ll wait.

$10,000 a month is the answer. If your jaw just dropped, so did mine when he told me.

So get after it and let me know if you have any questions. Happy hustling! 👊
