SCALEABLE WITH A SIDE OF ELBOW GREASE
Alright guys, I found a side hustle that can make $10k a month and you don't even need a college degree to start it, heck even a high school degree.
If youâre young and are willing to put in some hard work in the beginning, this could start out as a side hustle and scale into a full-fledged business.
Whatâs the side hustle? Glad you asked.
Itâs a mobile car detailing service.
How it would work
When someone needs their car detailed, usually the inside and out. You come to them with all the supplies needed, clean it there, and get paid.
Unlike detailing shops, where car owners have to drive to the shop and spend several hours as their cars get spruced upâŚ
Mobile car detailing happens at the car ownerâs convenience - driveway, garage, office parking lot, on their roofâŚokay maybe not that one but you catch my drift.
Who you're going after
Now, youâre not going to target just anybody. Nope. Youâre to target the people with the nice expensive cars.
Think Teslaâs, Range Roverâs, Porscheâs, nice trucks, etc.
These are the people that:
Care about keeping their cars clean or they wouldnât have nice cars in the first place
Have the money to pay you for this service
HOW YOU'RE GOING TO DO IT
1. Market yourself and see who bites
The first thing youâre going to do is make a flyer with your name on it and a little bio about yourself.
Something like:
âHey Neighbor! My name is Faares Q. I love your car and as a car enthusiast myself, Iâve started a mobile car detailing service.
How does it work? You call and I come clean your car (inside and out if requested) in your own driveway!
If youâre interested, you can reach me at 773-202-LUNA.
Thank you, Faares.â
Now what youâre going to do with this fyler is walk around your neighborhood and every expensive car you see, slip it in their door.
All you have to do is get your first three, four, five customers and from there it's going to roll and if you do an amazing job like you should, this will scale through word of mouth.
2. Grab the essential supplies
Youâre first going to need the basics:
A pressure washer (one that comes with a sprayer bottle and nozzle attachments so you can foam spray the car. I actually own this one and it works well on my Tesla.)
A vacuum (probably a Shop-Vac)
A set of brushes
Microfiber towels
Soap and foaming cleanser
Two buckets: one for clean, one for dirty as your washing
Start small, as you get better and start making money you can buy better supplies like expensive wax and polishing but for now, stick to the basics and focus on acquiring customers.
I found two really good videos on YouTube from the Chemical Guys on how to detail the inside and outside of a car.
And if you know anything about car detailing, you know the chemical guys donât mess around, these guys are pros. Rightfully so, they make $50M a year off detailing and the products they sell online.
3. Scale
As you grow your clientele and become comfortable detailing, itâs time to start scaling.
Youâre going to put out a job listing for a car detailer paying ~$20/hr. When you find someone awesome, youâre going to train them and tell your clients there will be someone new coming to clean their cars this time.
Letâs say it takes 2 hours to detail a car and you charge $200. You paid your employee $40 and maybe $10-$20 in supplies.
Thatâs $150 you made from doing no work. Your job now becomes making sure your employee is doing just as an amazing job as you were and to hold the reputation of your service high.
The math here is simple. If you're able to get 2 cleans a day at $200, you'll make $12,000 a month. And that's not with hundreds of clients, it's more like 40.
This is how you scale a business and make hundreds of thousands of dollars a year đ
