THE STRUGGLES OF LEAVING THE WORKFORCE

Moms are real-life superheroes. They're always there when you need them and they're willing to put their careers on pause to take care of their children.`

The problem? When their kids grow up and moms are ready to jump back into the job market, that resume gap puts them at an enormous disadvantage.

A research study by Katherine Weisshaar out of the University of North Carolina highlights how employers view stay-at-home parents as less reliable, less deserving of a job, and β€” the biggest penalty β€” less committed to work.

The study goes on to back up that it's harder to get a job for parents who took a leave of absence to take care of their children than it is for employees who were laid off and unemployed.

Applicants with work gaps have a 45% lower chance of receiving a job interview than those without one.

Because of this huge hurdle, companies like Momternships are popping up trying to help this demographic smoothly transition back into the workforce.

What exactly is a momternship? It's essentially an internship program, but for moms who have left the workforce to usually take care of their kids and are now looking to rejoin.

It’s a 10-week paid program where moms get relevant experience under their belts so they can acquire better paying jobs. The program contains several different work areas such as finance, HR, and marketing.

MullenLowe, a full-service agency, and HeyMama, the nation’s largest and fastest-growing online community of entrepreneurial and working moms partnered to create this program.

Get this, HeyMama has 138k followers on Instagram and is estimated to make $12.3M/yr, per Growjo.

Helping moms get back into the workforce is a big market. Here's a business idea for entrepreneurs:

1. Job board tailored towards moms

Going niche is always the best first step. It creates a loyal customer base that cares deeply about your mission and widely spreads your business through word of mouth.

This job board will be strictly for moms - nobody else πŸ™…β€β™€οΈ

How can you grow this job board? It's going to take time but if you're consistent, it has the potential to make you millions of dollars a year and I'll show you someone who's done it in a minute.

4 steps to get the ball rolling:

  1. Post as many jobs as you can - you want your website to drive traffic and to get picked up by Google search so your website it popping up on page 1 when "jobs for moms" is searched

  2. Create a weekly newsletter for new jobs to alert customers in one quick list (later on this)

  3. Reach out to companies to post jobs on your job board - if you have a good amount of unique monthly visitors they'll pay. You'll also start to receive inbound deals

  4. Depending on the number of visitors you get per month, a range from $100-$1000 is appropriate for each job posting - plus an extra charge if they want to be featured in the newsletter

You could niche down even further if you want and only promote fully remote jobs.

Work/life balance has become top of mind since the pandemic and we already know how popular it has gotten.

Remember how I said I'll show you someone who's created a job board successfully? Let me introduce you to Peter Levels.

Here are a few things you need to know about Peter:

  • He's a self-taught coder

  • He's created multiple projects that do >$10k/mo, and most recently is creating AI models and self-training them himself

  • He's a nomad (who currently lives in Lisbon, Portugal)

Basically, this guy just through the "common path playbook" out the window.

Related to this week's trend, Peter created a job board called Remote OK

He has since taken down his live chart of how much the site makes but as we know, nothing on the internet really dies.

Your boy got the archive and check this out - a few months ago his site was making $150k/mo.

So if you think this isn't doable, here's proof it is! And here's an in-depth tweet about how to start a niche job board πŸ‘Š
