THE RISING DEMAND FOR EDITORS
Think of your favorite YouTuber... okay, someone other than me.
Do they have crisp edits? Chances are they hire editors and let me tell you, I know from being a creator that these editors are making this side hustle into a pretty sizable business.
Many of my YouTuber friends hire editors and these guys are getting paid hundreds of dollars for every video.
And this is only one creator - imagine working for 5 of them. That's easily an extra 1,000 dollars every month. What's even better is there's a way scale this to much more than that every month. Don't worry, I won't leave you hangin - keep reading.
As saturated as you might think YouTube is there's still a ton of opportunity with 2.6 billion monthly active users and around 500 hours of videos uploaded every minute - that's a lot of content that needs to be edited!
The video editing industry is set to be the fastest growing sector at 14% from 2021-2031, which is almost double that of many other occupations in the space.
All this to say that video editing isn't going anywhere. Even when AI comes and takes over, there's going to be new roles for directing it, which is going to be a whole market of its own.
So if you haven't gotten into video editing and want to not only ride the tailwind of this growing industry but also learn valuable skills, then wink-wink... this is your cue!
Here are a few ideas you can profit from:
1. Offer Video Editing Services
This first one is a no brainer. If you've got the skills and the software, you can start your own video editing business today and offer your services to content creators looking to up their game.
Think YouTubers, Instagram influencers, and businesses looking to create promotional videos. You could even specialize in a specific type of content, like wedding videos or music videos.
And if you don't have the skills, start learning! Whether it's iMovie or diving right into Final Cut Pro - there's free tutorials for both.
Here is a video editor on Fiverr who charges $125 for basic video editing services (one episode up to 45 minutes or his premium package of up to $900, which includes editing 4 episodes for podcasts up to 60 minutes each)
Or you can niche down like this seller who edits horror stories and gets paid $100-$500 for it.
If you're serious about this side hustle, you're going to get customers. So many in fact that you're going to have a problem, well a good one. You'll have too many clients and won't be able to keep up with the demand.
When you're in this position don't give the โSorry, I donโt have enough time.โ
Say โHell yeah, I can do that!โ
Can you really handle it? Nope. But they don't know that.
You're going to hire another quality editor on Upwork or Fiverr to handle it. Then manage them and hire more as needed.
Once you're at this stage, youโll punch your one-way ticket to creating a million-dollar video editing agency.
Your main role will become securing clients and managing your editors. This business can make you well over $1,000 a day. It won't be easy but it's a legit way to kiss your 9-5 goodbye ๐
2. Create courses and tutorials
The other way you can go at this huge trend is by teaching others the craft.
There's thousands of eager people out there that are looking to learn editing either because they want to become a creator or want to make money off it.
There is a lot of value in bringing together a nicely packaged course. People will pay for convenience and having all the resources in one spot so they don't have to spend hours searching the web.
A great example is Phil Ebiner, an instructor on Udemy who teaches Video Production. He charges as little as $10 and as much as $95 per course and absolutely crushes it.
His net worth? $1.4 million. Yep, that's right, there's serious money to be make in Udemy courses!
Make your courses informative and as funny or as serious as you want. Just remember to make sure your jokes are actually funny. (We're looking at you, Dad jokes.)
Phil sells these types of courses about video editing in the comfort of his home. This could be you ๐ช
Quick Tip: To rank on Udemy you need 5 things, topic saturation, keywords, review score, number of reviews, and conversions. Hereโs an article on these ranking factors and how to get your course highly ranked. Happy hustling! ๐
