The next wave of pet wellness is here
i'm willing to bet these trends will 10x
GM. This is Work "After" Work, the newsletter so full of sauce, you might as well call us Ragu.
Here’s how we’re starting the week:
🐶 Million dollar pet trends
😂 Meme of the day
WHO WANTS A TREAT? I GOTCHU
Two things are for sure in life - taxes and people’s love for their pets.
Lemme hit you with a few stats:
70% of Gen Z would rather get a pet than have a kid
25% of millennials said they’d sell their car to save their pet’s life
81% of millennial pet owners said they love their pet more than at least one family member
Do any of these surprise you? How about that there are almost double the amount of pets than kids in American households?
It’s no surprise why the global pet industry is $261B.
This is why PetSmart can charge $40 for a glow in the dark ball.
Just a small capture of this market is HUGE - .001% = $2,610,000.
Lucky for you, I’ve got three trends you’ve probably never thought of that can make you hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars.
Now let’s get the zoomies and hop into these trends with as much excitement as this dog:
Trend #1 - Pet Mental Health
Turns out dogs aren’t as different from us after all. They still experience anxiety.
Source: Google Trends
Approximately 3 million dogs today are on anti-anxiety meds. Help calm the nerves of our furry four-legged friends.
I think you could make money off this in two ways.
#1 A newsletter that helps pet owners understand their pets needs better. Up to 40% of dogs have separation anxiety, this is but one example and one animal. Separation anxiety also occurs in:
cats
birds
horses
pigs
goats
sheep
What’s nice about this newsletter is even a small subscriber base can make you hundreds of dollars per ad. Since all your subscribers will be pet owners, any company in the industry will be salivating for ad space.
I know someone who only has 3,000 subscribers and makes six figures from his newsletter. The readers are only execs and CEOs so it’s easy to get pretty much any software company to pay for ad space.
#2 Spotify pet soothing playlists
Did you know you can make money from Spotify playlists? If this is news to you check out the newsletter I wrote about it a few months back and how I went undercover to see how much people are actually making 👀
The jist is once you grow a playlist you can make money from artists who are willing to pay you to be on it.
The other way is becoming a curator on PlaylistPush and getting paid to review songs. They require a few things, the biggest having a playlist with 1,000 followers, but once you meet them you can make up to $15 per song review for other playlists. Not too shabby!
Trend #2 - Pet Spas
It’s not only humans that like spas, animals do too and owners are interested in making sure their dogs get the best treatment.
Brick and mortar spas can 100% work but so can mobile. Create Uber for dogs but the only place they’re goin is feel good town!
Offer shampoos, nail clippings, haircuts, soothing music/scents, and even massages.
Trend #3 - Pet Health Plans
And last but not least, health plans for pets.
I’ve already shown you how much people love their pets. So much so they’re willing to go the extra mile to make sure their pets live as long as possible.
Keto diets for dogs are becoming popular and subreddits for certain dog breeds are exploding.
Work with vets to create questionnaires that provide personalized health plans for owner’s furry friends.
A great example is a family that just bought a new dog. They go to the vet to get all it’s shots, like rabies, then ask what dog food they should be feeding it.
The vet recommends they fill out this questionnaire and upon completion it spits out details on how many calories, vitamins, and supplements that specific breed should be eating.
You can make money from referrals or charge a monthly subscription for the family to follow as the dog ages. Maybe it needs to start taking more joint supplements once it turns 5. Of course, you’ll cut the vet in on the profits.
I could also see this being a cool standalone service. It’s essentially your “dog dashboard”.
Customers input their dog’s weight, age, and breed, and it spits out exactly what their dog should be eating. If you’ve ever met someone crazy in love with their pet, you know if this service rocks it would be a hit.
And that’s all I had for you guys. If you have any questions lmk and how a pawtastic rest of your day 🐾
