🪵 Pyrography: the next big thing
two businesses you can build from this trend
GM. This is Work "After" Work, the newsletter that helps you open the door to new opportunities and exciting adventures in the world of business.
Hop on, let’s go!"
It's Friday, let's boogie:
🪵 Pyrography and wood carving
😂 Meme of the day
THE CREATIVE BOOM
Ever since Covid, creativity has been exploding and people have been experimenting further than their Hobby Lobby paint-by-numbers. New trends like woodworking and pyrography are garnering billions of views on TikTok.
Most of you are quite familiar with woodworking, the art of making things from wood, but I'm willing to bet you're not so familiar with pyrography - so let's talk about it.
Pyrography originates from the Greek words, “pur” and “graphos” which translates to writing with fire! Who knew you were going to get a history lesson today?
Simply put, pyrography is burning illustrations into wood to create artwork.
And TikTok is eating it up. Check out these views.
#woodworking - 21.6B views
#woodcarving - 1.6B views
#pyrography - 527M views
Pair that with its subreddit channels, r/woodworking, r/woodcarving, & r/pyrography which are also growing exponentially.
Here's two businesses to capitalize on this trend:
1. Custom Kits
People are having real trouble doing this craft. There’s a whole woodworking confessions subreddit over 20k members strong with stories like this:

There's one problem with this trend - there's a high barrier to entry.
I don't know about you, but I don't have a wood saw laying around my house, nor do I want to chop off my fingers trying to cut wood!
Solve this by creating DIY custom kits. A perfect example, creating a custom wooden birdhouse.
Inside are pre-cut pieces of wood, a guide to assembling the birdhouse along with glue, paint, and wood stain to decorate and protect the wood long-term.
Appeal to the billion of views these hashtags are receiving right now on TikTok by creating content around your kits. In each video provide a link where DIY fanatics can go to buy these awesome kits.
Or provide these classes in real life. There's been an increased interest in in-person classes over the past 2 years 👀

2. Selling Woodworking Tools
It wasn’t the gold seekers who made all the money during the Gold Rush, it was the people selling the picks and shovels - same thing here.
You need to use the right tools for the job otherwise it could turn out like this! 🥴
“Woodworking tools” alone gets 57k Google searches per month.
This doesn’t mean you need to create your own wood-burning products. If you're an engineer and think you can create a much better product, then go for it.
But if you're not like me, grow a following in this niche and recommend quality products for others who are looking to start. Affiliate marketing might be a thing you hear about all the time, but it's a legit way to make money!
And of course, once your side hustle kicks off you can always thank me by sending over some pyrography artwork - like this beautiful masterpiece right here!
Okay, here are some real masterpieces:
