MEET CHATGPT'S COUSIN

I talked about Chat GPT 2 days ago so it’s only right that I talk about the other insanely cool thing Open AI has also created, DALLE - 2.

If you thought ChatGPT was cool, you might want to hold onto your seat.

DALLE - 2 is an AI that can take anything you can think of and turn it into art. Quick, think of something out of the box that’s never been created before.

Did you also think of “a giraffe playing basketball in outer space” or just me?...

Go and mess around with it yourself. It’s pretty cool. You get 50 free tokens (or image creations) for the first month, then 15 free for every month after.

There are a lot of ways to make money using this AI art technology, but I think the easiest one would be with an Etsy print-on-demand store.

I did a whole newsletter on Etsy print-on-demand a few weeks ago so I won’t cover every detail but the gist is:

  • There’s no inventory required

  • You only pay for a product when a customer buys it

How would that work? With a service like Printful or Printify. They take care of everything - shipping & handling, inventory, customer orders, etc. You just figure out your product whether that’s prints, shirts, or printed coffee mugs. Then it’s your job to get buyers to your Etsy store.

I’d start with finding your niche. Do you want to sell crazy abstract things others might buy as gag gifts? Like a goat surfing on a t-shirt.

Or more practical art like prints of popular tourist destinations.

To get this Etsy store worthy photo I did 3 things:

1. Prompted DALL-E 2 with “a photo of a sunny and vibrant Paris with the Eiffel Tower shining”

It gave me these options:

2. Selected the photo I liked and downloaded it. Or you can have it return variations of the photo you like (which I did) or edit certain areas of the photo.

3. Use Unsplash (a website with free photos) and put your picture in a frame for staging when you’re setting up your Etsy store.

The same can be done with an AI art creator called Midjourney. It’s a little more precise and has better image quality.

I put the simple prompt “Paris at night with shining lights” and got some pretty cool results off the bat.

Getting good art out of DALLE or Midjourney is all about how good you are at prompting it to make dope artwork people will buy. This will be the hardest part so that’s what I want to focus on. You can find the best ways to get your Etsy store going by reading my other newsletter.

DALL-E & Midjourney are new and there’s not much out there. My goal is for you to be able to confidently create art in it after reading this.

So let’s jump in!

First off, there are great tutorials out there on Youtube that will help you learn the buttons and how to navigate in DALLE- 2, but the prompts are a whole other ballpark.

Definitely check out DALL-E’s prompt book with 82 slides showing all the different ways you can prompt it.

Here are the ones I found most useful.

For a vibe, you can prompt “vaporware”, which is a more neon vibe or gothic vibe.

The other important prompts are illustrations. I’ve learned that putting “digital art” or “3D render” at the end will result in some pretty cool artwork.

And to give you an idea of how cool this artwork can be, check out this tweet!

People are always in the market for artwork whether that be for new homes or redesigning rooms. Create art people love and you’ll have no problem scaling your Etsy store - it’s all in the product.

There’s so much to look at in AI and this newsletter could go on and on but I’ll stop here. There are a ton of opportunities with this creative AI so get after it! 👊
